As of November 19th 2009, the US Postal Service will no longer deliver the 800,000 peices of mail addressed to Santa at the North Pole after uncovering a child abuse scam in June of 2009. The UPS is concerned about children’s personal addresses being in the hands of over the 2100 volunteers in an around North Pole, Alaska.

Officials of North Pole, Alaska have stated to national news agencies that all mail is given a code number and no one who handles the mail knows the personal information the children. Since 2006 all volunteers are required to show ID before they
are allowed to process any mail.

The USPS has suggested moving the operation to small facility near by. But many insiders say that facility lacks to proper high speed equipment to handle the 100’s thousands of pieces of mail that get addressed to Santa each.
